NEW DELHI, Feb 7: In a display of exceptional skill and teamwork, students from Lovely Professional University (LPU) emerged victorious at the All India Inter University (AIIU) National Hockey (Men) Championship 2023-24, organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Competing against the top 16 university teams from across four zones, LPU's hockey team clinched the championship title, solidifying their reputation as formidable contenders in the sport.
Notably, three LPU students were also honored individually, with accolades for the best goalkeeper, deep defender, and the best player, further highlighting the team's outstanding performance and individual talent.
The national competition, held at the BSF Punjab Frontier Turf Ground in Jalandhar, Punjab, witnessed intense competition among top-skilled teams representing universities from different states across the country. Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar secured the position of 1st Runner up, while Bengaluru City University claimed the title of 2nd Runner up.
Expressing his elation, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and LPU's Founder Chancellor, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, extended heartfelt congratulations to the winning students and their mentors/coaches. Dr. Mittal emphasized LPU's commitment to nurturing sports talent and fostering a culture of excellence in athletics. He highlighted LPU's pride in producing top hockey players who consistently bring honor to both the university and the nation, contributing to the rich legacy of Indian hockey on national and international platforms.
The success of LPU's hockey team in the AIIU Championship not only underscores the university's dedication to sports but also serves as a testament to the students' dedication, perseverance, and remarkable sporting prowess. As LPU continues to champion sportsmanship and athletic excellence, such victories play a pivotal role in nurturing a thriving sports culture across the country.
