KVK organizes training programme on natural farming

POONCH, Feb 7: In line with series of activities under the project "Out scaling of Natural Farming through KVKs" KVK Poonch conducted its 5th two days training programme w.e.f. 06th -07th February, 2024 at its office campus. The training programme was attended by 40 farmers including men and women hailing from different areas of district Poonch. While welcoming the farmers, Sr. Scientist & Head, Dr. Ajay Gupta said that Natural Farming aims to reduce risks associated with the use of chemical fertilizers and encourages farmers to use low-cost homemade formulations based on cowdung, eliminate the use of chemical fertilizers, and industrial pesticides.
He said that Natural Farming has the potential of increasing the resilience of farmlands and protecting the crops against the extremes of weather by increasing the soil fertility and ensuring the growth of beneficial soil microbes. Dr. Muzafar Mir Fruit Scientist highlighted the importance of different types of mulches such straw, soil and live mulches used in horticultural crops and said that such types of mulches protect the top soil from being eroded and add organic matter to the soil, improve soil aeration and water retention.
Dr. Mushtaq Guroo Nodal Officer NF gave a detailed lecture on the concept and importance of Natural Farming and said that Natural Farming invariably produces good quality food both in terms of environmental integrity and human health. He emphasized that Natural Farming formulations can be easily and wisely integrated with modern technology for the benefit of farming community. Dr. Ramandeep Kour SRF delivered a lecture on Integrated Pest Management under Natural Farming during the said training programme.
The participating farmers thanked the KVK officials for organizing such types of training programmes that are beneficial both from environmental perspective and agricultural sustainability. The two days training programme ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Mushtaq Guroo.
