Jammu, Feb 9: Jammu & Kashmir Hosts Successful Tournament with Participants from Across North India
In an exciting culmination to the All India Tennis Association TS7 Under-16 Boys & Girls Tournament hosted by the Jammu & Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association, Hardeep Singh Soodan emerged victorious in the Boys’ singles final, while Erin Mir clinched the Girls’ singles title.
The tournament, conducted under the auspices of the J&K Sports Council, witnessed intense competition among 21 boys and 8 girls representing states including Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, and the host region of Jammu & Kashmir.
In a gripping Boys’ singles final, Hardeep Singh Soodan showcased his resilience by defeating Aryan Razdan with a scoreline of 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), demonstrating remarkable skill and determination. Similarly, Erin Mir displayed her prowess on the court, securing victory in the Girls’ singles final against Anandita Gurung with a score of (8-5).
The semi-finals witnessed remarkable performances from the contenders, with Hardeep Singh Soodan triumphing over Aahan Beat (8-0) and Aryan Razdan prevailing against Abhirath Thappa (8-1).
The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Chief Guest Sh. Subash Chander Chhibber, along with Guests of Honour Jatinder Mishra, Rajeev Sharma, Mohd Hanief, Dr. Zaffar Iqbal, Sheikh Riaz Ahmad, and Er. Atul Gupta. They were briefed on the significance of such tournaments in nurturing young talent in tennis.
During the proceedings, Er. B.S Jaggi, the General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association (JKLTA), highlighted the need for improved tennis infrastructure in schools and advocated for the inclusion of tennis in the school curriculum. This initiative aims to foster greater participation and interest in the sport among the youth.
The successful execution of the tournament was credited to the dedicated efforts of the JKLTA team, led by Capt. Murti Gupta (President), Hanumant Singh (Vice President), Amit Gupta (Treasurer), and various Executive Members.
The event not only showcased exceptional tennis skills but also underscored the importance of promoting sports at the grassroots level, ensuring a bright future for aspiring tennis players across the region.
