Remain vigilant: IGP Birdi to officers
2/9/2024 10:46:50 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 9: In the wake of the killing of two non-locals in Srinagar, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi asked officers to remain vigilant and constantly review the arrangements.
IGP said this during a virtual conference, which he co-chaired with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bhiduri on Thursday evening. The meeting was attended by all Deputy Commissioners and district police chiefs in Kashmir.
The meeting reviewed the 'arrangements concerning minority clusters and other critical areas in light of recent developments.'
A police spokesman said all the participants were briefed about the elaborate security measures taken in this regard.
"They briefed me that security measures in these clusters are reviewed and beefed up to ensure a secure environment," a police spokesman said
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir stressed to the participants that there would be every effort by the magistrate along with the police to ensure a secure and congenial environment.
IGP Kashmir impressed the participants to remain ever vigilant along with their security force counterparts and constantly review the arrangements to refine the responses and devise in-genuine ways to prevent such attempts.
On Wednesday evening, Amritpal Singh, 31, from Amritsar, Punjab, was shot dead by militants in the Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar, and another of his colleagues, Rohit, 25, was wounded grievously. Rohit succumbed to his injuries at Srinagar's tertiary care hospital Thursday morning.
The killings of non-local workers have been widely condemned in Kashmir. Candlelight marches were held on Thursday at several places in the Kashmir Valley in protest against the killing of two young workers in Punjab.
Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari said on Thursday that people in Kashmir must stand up against the targeted killing and expose those involved in such acts.
