Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Feb 10: In line with the series of enlightening programs commemorating Azaadi ka Amrit Kaal, the PG Department of English at Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college, organized an extension lecture for postgraduate students of English, Hindi, and Chemistry. The lecture, titled "Psychodynamic Theory and Its Implications on English Literature," was conducted under the patronage of Principal Prof (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, as part of "Viksat Bharat @2047" initiative.
The event, held in the college's conference hall, featured an inaugural session followed by a technical session, helmed by Prof Tania Akhter. Dr. Sonia Khajuria, Head of the PG Department of English, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the significance of the topic and its relevance to English Literature. She introduced the resource person, Dr. Piyali Arora, Head of the Department of Psychology at GDC Udhampur, expressing gratitude to Principal Prof (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta for the swift approval to conduct the event. Special invitees included Professor Babu Lal Thakur, Head of the Department of Education, and Dr. Ashok Sharma, Convener of IQAC. Professors Tania Akhter and Dr. Meena Gupta served as coordinators and organizing secretaries for the event.
Dr. Piyali Arora delved into various aspects of Psychodynamics theory, citing the contributions of prominent figures such as Freud, Lacan, and Jung. She elucidated concepts such as the Id, Ego, and Superego, alongside discussing the psychosexual development stages and ego defense mechanisms. Drawing parallels with Indian psychoanalyst Sh. Girindrasekhar Bose, Dr. Arora highlighted the intersection of Hindu thought with Freudian concepts. She underscored the relevance of psychoanalytic theory to everyday life, including its application in Shakespearean works. The lecture concluded with an interactive session, where Dr. Arora addressed queries from students, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Principal Prof (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta commended the session for its contribution to enhancing participants' understanding of human behavior and encouraging further exploration of psychoanalytic theory. He lauded the PG Department of English for organizing such an enriching session.
Dr. Piyali Arora was honored with a memento as a token of appreciation by the head of the PG Department of English, and Dr. Naresh Sharma delivered the formal vote of thanks. The event saw attendance from various faculty members and students from different PG departments, with Ms. Mehroz Chandail, a student of PG-I Semester in the Department of English, adeptly conducting the proceedings.
