Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 10: Under the leadership of Raj Kumar Banathia, the General Category People's Front, Jammu Kashmir (GCPF-JK), convened a crucial meeting today to address the pressing issues faced by the populace of Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. Yash Paul Sanson, President of the Front, vehemently criticized the policies of the Lieutenant Governor (L.G.) administration, alleging that they have inflicted widespread suffering on the people across various spheres.
In his address, Prof. Sanson accused the L.G. administration of burdening the populace with exorbitant taxes, fees, fines, tolls, and service charges. He lamented the adverse impact of heavy taxation on essential commodities, skyrocketing inflation, and the escalating prices of daily essentials, which have made it arduous for ordinary citizens to manage their household expenses. He stressed that these policies alienate the masses from the administration and could have detrimental effects on the BJP in upcoming elections.
The Front put forward several demands, including the provision of 300 units of free electricity to every household akin to Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, exemption of pensioners from income tax, and an increase in medical allowances for employees and pensioners. Additionally, they criticized the Union Government for imposing GST on food grains and essential commodities, advocating for its withdrawal to alleviate the burden on the common people.
Som Nath Sharma, General Secretary of the Front, called upon the Government of India to take proactive measures to eradicate casteism and promote equality, justice, liberty, and dignity for all citizens. He urged unreserved category individuals to reflect on their predicament and hold accountable leaders and political parties that have perpetuated divisive vote bank politics.
Furthermore, Sharma emphasized the Front's longstanding stance against inequalities, injustices, and caste discrimination, advocating for the implementation of Supreme Court verdicts on reservations and the enactment of an equality act.
Vice Presidents, V.K Sharma and Bhushan Pargal, highlighted the Front's agenda focused on the welfare of all people regardless of caste, class, or religious considerations. They criticized the Modi Government for its failure to address unemployment, economic instability, and the burdensome taxation system, while calling for an end to caste-based discrimination.
The meeting, attended by prominent members including Dr. Bansi Lal, Surinder Kumar, Jagdish Dogra, Ravi Sahni, and Gopal Dass Verma, concluded with R.K. Banathia expressing gratitude to all participants and hinting at the Front's imminent foray into electoral politics.
The gathering underscored the Front's commitment to advocating for socioeconomic reforms and striving for a more equitable and just society for all citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
