| Assembly to elect Speaker on Feb 25 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 21: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat has released the provisional calendar for the sittings of the first session of the 11th Legislative Assembly.
As per the calendar, the election of Speaker will be held on February 25, at 1000 hrs followed by Governor's address on the same day, an official spokesperson told PBI.
Discussion on the Motion of Thanks on Governor's Address will be held on February 26, 27 and March 2, while the Government Business will be taken up on February 28 and March 7. The presentation of Vote-on-Account for 2009-2010 and Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2008-09 will be taken up on March 3, while discussion and voting on Vote-on-Account (VoA) for 2009-2010 and Supplementary Grants for 2008-09 will be held on March 4, the spokesperson said.
Appropriation Bills will be taken up on March 5 and Private Members Bills will be considered on March 6. However, the Private Members Resolutions will be taken up on March 9.
Choudhary Mohammad Aslam was appointed Speaker Pro-tem by Governor N N Vohra after the post had fallen vacant due to the resignation tendered by Tara Chand, on 5 January. Mr Tara Chand, who was elected as MLA again as Congress candidate, has been appointed Deputy Chief Minister in the National Conference-Congress coalition government in the state.
