GDC Billawar organized awareness camp on acid attack survivors

JAMMU, Feb 12: Government Degree College Billawar organized awareness camp on Acid Attack Survivors on 12th February, 2024 under the mentorship of Dr. Alka Sharma, Principal GDC Billawar. Woman Study Center and IQAC, GDC Billawar in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Committee Billawar organized this program.
The proceedings of the program were conducted by Dr. Manu Sharma, Head, Department of English and member Woman Study Center (WSC), GDC Billawar. A special lecture was delivered by Adv. Honey Bali, Resource Person of the event. She explains the motives behind acid attacks that range from something as simple as a girl rejecting a boy's gestures of affection, to more deep-seated cultural issues such as dowry. While vengeance is a key reason behind this heinous crime. She also gave a detailed list legal repercussions in the form of stringent punishments if one commits such crime. The program was attended by the faculty members of the college along with more than 100 students.
