MUNISH GUPTA Jammu, Feb 21: THE Internet revolution during the last few years has proved without any doubt that technological innovation can expand access to information and knowledge faster than one can imagine. The knowledge available at WWW alone will continue to empower communities and individuals around the world. The major impact of new information technologies (which creates new opportunities) is on the society where there has to be a greater focus on gearing up IT professionals to meet the challenges. A quick look at global trends in technology applications and IT investments reveals the opportunities for professionals. Before the introduction if IT or computers there was only elementary education or class teachings in schools or colleges. But the whole process of learning and teaching has been revolutionized all because of the introduction of IT in every field of society stated NK Verma Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, the chief guest on the one day seminar being organized by Department of Computer Sciences GCW Parade on the topic “ Impact of IT on society –Emerging trends and Issues”. Speaking on occasion Verma also said that Women can also march ahead in this sector as the whole atmosphere has been turned IT savvy and moreover the future of the mankind lies in advancement of this sector. He also stated that there is a need to take this technology to the remote areas also. As it needs to be mentioned that chief Minister Omar Abdullah has underscored the importance of Information Technology (IT) to villages to expand the ambit of modern technology and create jobs for skilled persons a few days ago. An agreement to set up 1109 kiosks in all 22 districts of the state to cover 6,654 villages and generate 2,000 jobs for youth was reached between the state government and J&K Bank. From the last six years ago, there has been a great revolution the field of education particularly in our state and the role of Information technology can be underestimated for this revolution stated Director Colleges Meenakshi Kilam , guest of honor on the occasion. She also stated that the BCA programme has emerged as flagship programme under university courses. She also its really a matter of honor for the college that from the last six years 25 students from the college has been placed into different Multinational companies. While Joint Director Information Technology, Dr. Dar Singh in his keynote address said that computers and the wide spectrum of information technology are one of the biggest source of employment and career in the world. More and more persons are getting attracted towards the lucrative careers in the world of information technology. Today, careers related to information technology can be found in every industry in some form or the other. However the scope and extent may very from industry to industry. Some of these careers are very technical in nature and require extensive on job as well as classroom training, while other professions do not require such an extensive training program yet are equally lucrative and offer great career opportunities. He also stated that there are also some negative effects like use of technology in crimes and use of internet by the children for viewing some illegal material. Earlier Principal of the College in her welcome speech throw light on the day proceedings .She said that the deliberation of the seminar will certainly help the authorities to frame the policies related with the expansion of IT education and opportunities in the state. As there are two technical sessions, the first session was chaired by Dr. Lalit Sen in which 15 delegates from different parts of the country will presented their papers while the second session was chaired by Prof. Pawnesh Abrol. Others who graced the occasion included Prof. Devanand Padha , Dr. ND Wani, Director Colleges, DIG Farooq Khan and Dr. MR Puri. The programe was compeered by Mehak Gupta and the vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Parveen Singh HOD Computer Sciences , GCW Parade and also the organizer of the seminar.
