All India Inter University Wushu Championship 2023-24 declares open

JAMMU, Feb 13: The All India Inter University Wushu (Men and Women) Championship 2023-24 organised by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu, commenced today at the University Gymnasium Hall, after it was declared open by Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, in the presence of Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies,Dr. Mandeep Singh, Suhel Ahmed, and a large number of dignitaries, players, officials, employees, participants of different universities, as well as people from the civil society.
Suhel Ahmed, Chief Jury Member Wushu, addressed the gathering with his remarkable work and congratulated the organisers for organising this national-level event. He lauded the efforts in the management of the event, and he further proposed that the next Asian Championship in Wushu will be held at the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, if the university is willing to host.
While addressing the gathering, Prof. Rai congratulated the organisers for organising such sports events, which will provide an opportunity for the students of the various universities to come closer to each other besides showing their sports talent. He also appreciated the huge participation of the players and officials accompanying their teams from the various universities. He also unveiled the mascot of the Wushu Championship.
Prof. Rai very enthusiastically accepted the proposal of organising the Asian Championship in Wushu at the University of Jammu, as proposed by Suhel Ahmed. Prof. Rai said in his address that the University of Jammu is organising various sports activities to engage the energy of the youth in a positive manner. He further added that the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, is organising various skill development workshops under the aegis of SIIEDC and funded by RUSA.
Earlier, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, presented the formal welcome address and detailed report of the said championship. Dr. Baba addressed that the Association of Indian Universities has entrusted the responsibility to the University of Jammu for hosting the All India Inter University Wushu (Men and Women) Championship 2023-24, w.e.f. February 13th-17th, 2024, in which more than 1400 players from 127 universities across the nation are participating in this mega event.
He also emphasised that sports and games impart a sense of discipline, camaraderie, and togetherness. Sports and games are the right avenues to channel the energy and vitality of students in a positive direction. He also promised that the University of Jammu will be the frontrunner in nourishing the talent of sportspeople, who will ultimately make Jammu and the nation proud.
Prominent among others present were Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Prof. Vinay Chouhan, Dr. Dharminder Magotra, Dr. Ginny Dogra, Director DIQA, Dr. Jaspal Warwal, Dr. Rashid Ahmed, Dr. Sumita Sharma, Dr. Imran Farooq, Er. Ameet Targotra, Akanksha Sharma, Suriya Sharma, Capt. Sarweshwar Dubey, Vimal Kishore, Vikas Karlopia, Ravish Vaid, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Gagan Kumar, Jai Bharat, Sd. P. D. Singh, Dr. Mahak, S. Harinderpal Singh, Manu Pawar, Richa Mandla, Inderjeet Singh, Rishiv Sharma and officials of the participating teams.
