2/13/2024 10:04:41 PM
Early Times Report
KATHUA, Feb 13: Continuing its dedicated efforts under the National Road Safety Month campaign, the Road Safety Club of Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua, in collaboration with NSS Units, organized its fifth awareness campaign aimed at promoting road safety measures in key areas of Kathua city.
The campaign, conducted at Sheedi Chowk, Shyama Parsad Mukherji Chowk, and the main bazaar, saw enthusiastic volunteers engaging with shopkeepers and residents, spreading awareness about road safety and traffic rules. Armed with placards containing messages on various road safety measures and rules, volunteers passionately advocated for safer road practices.
The volunteers urged individuals to prioritize safety by wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers, avoiding drinking and driving, fastening seat belts while driving four-wheelers, refraining from using mobile phones while driving, adhering to traffic signals, and avoiding the use of modified silencer bikes. They also emphasized the importance of avoiding wrong parking, driving within speed limits, possessing a valid driving license, avoiding triple riding on two-wheelers, ensuring pillion riders also wear helmets, overtaking from the right, maintaining a safe distance, giving way to emergency vehicles, maintaining lane discipline, and avoiding distractions.
Furthermore, volunteers encouraged residents to extend the campaign to their respective localities, amplifying its impact across the community. The month-long campaign, observed from 15th January 2024 to 14th February 2024, aims to instill a culture of road safety awareness and compliance.
Prior to this, the Road Safety Club of GDC Kathua organized various activities, including slogan writing competitions, poster making competitions, and door-to-door campaigns on road safety measures, witnessing the active participation of over two hundred volunteers.
Under the patronage of Principal Prof. Seema Mir and the guidance of Prof. Manmohan Singh, Convenor of the Road Safety Club, GDC Kathua, and NSS Program Officers Dr. Kulbir Singh, Dr. Arvind Kumar, and Dr. Pinky, these initiatives have been executed diligently. Senior volunteers such as Mahrrof Chudhary, Vishal Gupta, Nikita Sharma, Jharna Sharma, Kanika Sharma, Dheeraj Kumar, Iqra Kouser, Nandani Bajralta, and Mansha have played pivotal roles in ensuring the success of this one-month-long national campaign on road safety.
