Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 13: In a concerted effort to address the longstanding grievances of the displaced Kashmiri community, the All Kashmiri Migrant Democratic Front (KMDF) has submitted a comprehensive memorandum to the Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory. Led by its Patron, Shri M.K. Yogi, the KMDF, along with esteemed members, outlined a series of critical demands aimed at facilitating the rehabilitation and empowerment of Kashmiri migrants, both within and outside the Valley.
Among the key demands highlighted in the memorandum are:
Resettlement and Rehabilitation: The KMDF emphasized the need for a concrete and permanent rehabilitation policy to facilitate the return and resettlement of displaced Kashmiri migrants to the Valley, reclaiming their roots.
Compensation for Losses: The memorandum underscores the need for compensation concerning immovable properties, orchards, trade establishments, and agricultural holdings, which have remained unaddressed by successive governments.
Employment and Welfare: Concern was expressed over the inadequate implementation of employment schemes, urging equitable treatment in terms of job opportunities, accommodation, security, and other welfare measures.
Implementation of Central Government Schemes: The KMDF urged tangible actions to effectively implement central government schemes aimed at assisting the exiled community, bridging the gap between the community and the broader populace.
Addressing Unemployment: Calls were made for the creation of dedicated police recruitment battalions, reserved quotas in both public and private sectors, age relaxation, and preferential treatment for highly qualified youth.
Political Representation: Advocacy was made for reserved assembly and parliamentary seats for the exiled community to ensure equitable participation in governance.
Empowerment and Organizational Structure: The memorandum emphasized the need for formalized representation and organizational structures outside the Valley to amplify the community's voice in policy-making processes.
Infrastructure and Basic Services: Urgent intervention was urged to rectify deficiencies in essential services, particularly water supply in Jagti Camp, ensuring the well-being of residents.
Committee Formation and Oversight: Proposals were made for the formation of independent committees and the appointment of an Estates Nodal Officer to assess and address the current status of the exiled community.
Humanitarian Considerations: Appeals were made for equitable treatment and prioritization of resettlement and rehabilitation efforts to alleviate the suffering endured by the community.
The memorandum presented by the All Kashmiri Migrant Democratic Front underscores the urgent need for comprehensive policy measures and governmental interventions to address the protracted challenges faced by the displaced Kashmiri community. It reflects a collective aspiration for justice, empowerment, and inclusive development, resonating with the core principles of democracy and humanitarianism.
