2/13/2024 10:18:50 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 13: Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and District Development Council (DDC) Member Suchetgarh has come out openly in support of the farmers who marched to Delhi protesting for fulfilling their demands.
In a statement issued to media here today, the senior Congress leader asserted that all the demands raised by the farmers are genuine and fully justified. He urged the Union Govt to accept these demands without any further delay before the situation goes out of control for which the Govt shall be wholly and solely responsible.
It is pertinent to mention here that the farmers’ demands include legal guarantee to MSP for crops, debt waiver, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, pension for farmers and farm labourers, withdrawal of police cases and “justice” for victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act 2013, withdrawal from the World Trade Organization, and compensation for families of farmers who died during the previous agitation.
Tony said that the farmers of J&K are also united and undauntedly support the ongoing agitation under which they have marched towards the National capital. He said that the incumbent BJP Govt has betrayed the farmers’ community and its promise of doubling the farmers’ income continues to remain confined merely to papers and BJP speeches while the ground situation speaks the contrary. He said that the fact remains that the position of farmers has further worsened under the BJP Govt.
The senior Congress leader stated that like hoax promises of 2 crore jobs to youth, controlling inflation , bringing back black money, etc. turning out mere Jumlas, the Govt brought black laws against the farmers with the sole intension to finish them.
Tony said that Govt should talk to farmers and immediately accept their genuine pending demands at the earliest.
