Jammu, Feb 22: With very little options to compete for the white collar jobs, as many as 3000 students today wrote examination against each post of the Naib Tehsildar which was conducted today by the Service Selection Board. Jammu City was running short of the hotel accommodation since Saturday as thousands of aspirants thronged from across the region to write the much awaited examination which was being held almost eight years after the first notification. The Services Selection Board (SSB) today finally conducted the examination for Naib Tehsildars, which had been lingering on for the last seven years. Nearly 32,000 aspirants appeared in the test today for 111 posts, conducted at both the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu. Arrangements for smooth conduct of exams were made in association with the Education Department as well as Divisional Administrations. The Chief Minister had issued instructions to SSB to speed up holding of NT exams, following which the Chief Secretary geared up the administrative machinery and the examinations were held today. "Neutral observers/magistrates had been appointed by the Government to ensure that the exams are held in a fair and transparent manner", the Secretary, Services Selection Board said. The applications for the posts of Naib Tehsildars were first invited in 2002 and later in 2005 and 2008 when SSB issued notification for 111 posts referred to it, against which nearly 50,000 applications were received. Since then, several dates had been announced by the SSB for writing the examination, but the exams could not be held due to certain reasons until the Chief Minister intervened and ensured that the exams are conducted with no further delay.
