GDC Sidhra hosts symposium on Road Safety Month 2024

JAMMU, Feb 14: In a proactive move to address the pressing issue of road safety, Govt. Degree College Sidhra collaborated with the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit to host a symposium themed "Be a Road Safety Hero." The event, held in observance of Road Safety Month 2024, aimed to raise awareness about the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations and fostering responsible driving behaviors.
Under the guidance of Principal Dr. B.B. Anand, the symposium brought together students, faculty members, and experts from various fields to discuss the multifaceted aspects of road safety. Dr. Harpreet Kour, Head of the Political Science department, Dr. Mussarat Chowdhary, Head of Economics, along with members of the Road Safety Club and Dr. Mehmood Ahmed, Programme Officer of NSS, graced the occasion with their presence and valuable insights.
The symposium highlighted the need for collective action in creating a secure environment for all road users. Attendees were educated on the latest road safety technologies, best practices, and the importance of wearing safety gear such as seat belts and helmets to mitigate injuries in case of accidents. Emphasis was also placed on fostering community involvement through local events, road safety walks, and interactive sessions.
Several students actively participated in the symposium, showcasing their commitment to promoting road safety awareness. Discussions revolved around avoiding distractions while driving, obeying speed limits, and respecting traffic signals, emphasizing the pivotal role of individual responsibility in preventing road accidents.
In addition to raising awareness among students, the symposium aimed to engage schools, businesses, and local organizations in spreading the road safety message. By encouraging active participation from various sectors of society, the event sought to instill a culture of road safety consciousness and responsibility.
