Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Feb 14: The NSS Units of Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur, under the esteemed guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, marked the conclusion of the Road Safety Month (15th Jan. to 14th Feb.) with a series of impactful events themed "Safe Drive Save Life."
With the objective of fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness regarding road safety, the NSS Units organized various activities aimed at educating the public, particularly the youth, on the importance of adhering to traffic rules to prevent road accidents, which claim about 1.5 lakh lives annually.
The inaugural function, held on 16th January, saw the lighting of the traditional lamp and invocation of Saraswati Vandana, followed by a briefing on the Road Safety Month by NSS Program Officers Dr. Gurpreet Kour and Prof. Sanjeet Singh. Principal Prof. Gupta addressed the NSS Volunteers and staff, commending their efforts and emphasizing the crucial role of youth in promoting safer road behavior.
An In-House Awareness Campaign was conducted on 19th January, wherein NSS volunteers sensitized college students and staff about traffic regulations. A Road Safety Awareness Rally, themed "Life is Precious," was organized on 30th January, drawing attention to key road safety practices. The rally, flagged off by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 50 volunteers, who raised awareness through slogans and placards.
On 9th and 11th February, NSS Units hosted Slogan and Poster Making competitions, providing a platform for students to showcase their creativity while promoting traffic rule awareness. Winners were selected based on criteria such as theme relevance and impact on the public, with Sonu and Mohit securing first and second positions in poster making, and Ambica and Monika excelling in slogan writing.
