National Campaign cum Training Programme on Ashwagandha organized

JAMMU, Feb 15: The J&K State Medicinal Plant Board, Directorate of Ayush, J&K, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jammu, orchestrated a one-day National Campaign cum Training Programme focusing on "Ashwagandha: A Medicinal Plant" as part of the National Campaign on Ashwagandha.
Dr. Mohan Singh, Director Ayush J&K/CEO J&K Medicinal Plants Board, and Prof. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu, graced the occasion as chief guests. The training programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 80 medicinal plant growers from Jammu District.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Amrish Vaid commended the efforts of KVK Jammu in organizing this national-level campaign, emphasizing the importance of diversifying cultivation to include other high-demand medicinal plants. He highlighted the resilience of medicinal plants against pest and disease attacks, underscoring their potential for profitable cultivation.
Dr. Mohan Singh elucidated various initiatives undertaken by the Ayush department to promote medicinal plant-based medicines. He reassured the growers of support from the J&K State Medicinal Board in marketing their produce to the industry. Dr. Punit Choudhary, Chief Scientist and Head, KVK Jammu, extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and participants.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Raina, Assistant Director, Directorate of Ayush, J&K, provided insights into the medical camps conducted by their Directorate for awareness and popularization of Ayurvedic medicines in the region. Expert lectures were delivered by Dr. Wahid Ul Hassan, Technical Officer, State Medicinal Board J&K, and Dr. Lalit Mohan Gupta, Prof. & Head, Div. of Medicinal Plants, SKUAST-Jammu, on various aspects related to medicinal plant cultivation and management, with a focus on Ashwagandha.
Furthermore, interactive sessions were facilitated by experts from different fields, including Dr. Ravneet Kour, Dr. Prem Kumar, Dr. Muneeshwar Sharma, and Dr. Amitesh Sharma, providing farmers with valuable insights and guidance.
