Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jammu Students visited at Industry Bari Brahmana

JAMMU, Feb 15: Today, The exposure visit organized by BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office for the students of Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jammu took place at Kashmir Rolling Steel Mills in Bari Brahmana, Jammu. The main aim of the visit was to make students aware of the importance of quality and familiarize them with a BIS-certified manufacturing unit.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to visit the industry and understand the role of BIS in safeguarding consumer rights through standards and conformity assessment. The ISI Mark Scheme, which provides a third-party guarantee of product quality, safety, and reliability, was explained to the students. Various processes such as Standard Formulation, Product Certification, Hallmarking, System Certification, Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme, Compulsory Registration Scheme, and Testing & Calibration Services were also outlined.
Following this, the students visited Kashmir Rolling Steel Mills, where high strength deformed steel bars and wires for concrete reinforcement are manufactured and tested according to IS 1786: 2006 standards. The Managing Director of the firm, Sh. Tarun Singla, explained the manufacturing process of the TMT bars produced at their factory. The Quality Control Incharge also presented and explained the various requirements for obtaining the ISI mark. The manufacturing and testing procedures for ISI certified products were further explained by the quality control personnel at the industry.
The visit was conducted under the guidance of Mentor Sh. Pawan Kumar, with a total of 35 students participating. The students displayed a keen interest in learning about the activities of BIS and appreciated the initiative taken to organize such exposure visits.
