| Self-rule resolution to come up in assembly | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 23: The main opposition PDP has decided to move a resolution in the Assembly seeking support of the House for its demand for carrying out demilitarization in Jammu and Kashmir. The proposed resolution is part of the political agenda of the PDP. In fact it had raked up this issue during the recently Assembly election. Another resolution that party proposes to move pertains to establishment of self-rule in the state. A senior PDP leader said that "our concept of self-rule is different from the autonomy resolution adopted by the state legislature in 1999."He said the self-rule document of the PDP addresses both the internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir issue whereas the autonomy demand addresses only the internal dimension. Through another resolution the PDP will seek support of the House for repeal of the draconian laws including the Armed Forces (special powers) Act so that the level of alienation of people declined. The resolution will lay emphasis on the need for setting up open borders with Pakistan and occupied Kashmir so that one could taste the fruit of hassle-freer trade and travel. The PDP leader explained that demilitarization, repeal of Armed forces (special powers) Act, open borders, increased trade and travel facilities and joint management formed main components of self-rule. He said by establishing self-rule the current tension between Delhi and Islamabad and between Delhi and Srinagar is bound to end.
