Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEB 23: The Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, who completed his three-day extensive tour of the hilly districts of Poonch and Rajouri on Sunday, travelled hundreds of kilometres of difficult terrain by road to reach scores of villages and towns to get firsthand appraisal of the people's difficulties living in remote and inaccessible areas. As he mingled and spoke with them, he assured that justice will flow from the higher echelons of power and reach them at their very doorsteps.
Abdullah toured several villages through Sunderbani, Nowshera, Kalakote, Rajouri, Thanamandi, Shahdra Sharief, Dera Ki Gali, Buffliaz, Surankote, Poonch, Krishna Gali, Mendhar, Bimbergali and Manjakote.
At all the places, the Chief Minister was given rousing reception and people extended their warm affection by raising slogans in his favour, chanting welcome songs and waving flags.
The Chief Minister, addressing reception rallies at these places, assured the people that Government would make all out efforts to be responsive to the people's demands, especially in remote and far-flung areas. He said development of hitherto left under-developed areas would receive priority in the development process.
The Chief Minister said that the coalition Government would give justice to all citizens and every area will receive due share in the process of development, irrespective of any consideration. He said that both NC and Congress believe in secular and democratic principles and are above the politics of dividing people in the name of region or religion for self gain.
The Chief Minister said that the coalition Government would come up to the expectations of the people and the next six years would be known as years of public service. "I will bring the Government at your doorsteps. You will not search for officers but officers will look for you to hear you and redress your grievances", he told the people at all the public meetings he addressed amidst huge applause.
At Kalakote, the Chief Minister sanctioned Rs. 1 crore for power transmission line and also assured people that whenever possible he will sanction one college for the area.
During his visit to the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University of Science and Technology at Rajouri and also at Poonch, the Chief Minister handed over appointment orders to several youth under SRO-43. He also distributed cheques of Rs. 4 lakh each among youth in lieu of jobs.
The Chief Minister said that he would be visiting the forward areas across the State regularly to personally monitor the developmental works and receive feedback from the people about the quality of service rendered by the Administration.
Seeking active cooperation of the people in launching and executing projects and development schemes, Mr. Abdullah said that the people have to participate in plan formulation, execution and completion of works.
Addressing district officers at Rajouri and Poonch, the Chief Minister asked them to be responsive and accountable. He said the performance will be judged by the service and duty officers render for public good. He told them to be on their heels, travelling all areas, meeting the people and looking for their needs so that development plan can be accordingly formulated ensuring 100 per cent achievement.
The Chief Minister also visited the dargah of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah at Shahdra Sharief and paid obeisance. He also laid chadar at the Mausoleum of the great saint and prayed for welfare, peace and prosperity of the State and its people.

En route, the Chief Minister inspected the work on Rs. 255-crore 84-km-long Mughal Road Project. He drove about 10 km on the under-construction highway and directed it's early commissioning, adding that it was pioneered by Baba-e-Quam Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. He said it will be his pleasure to inaugurate the long cherished project.
