JALANDHAR, Feb 23: Lovely Professional University (LPU) has established itself as the frontrunner in patent filings in India, surpassing all universities, including the prestigious IITs. The Government of India's Annual Report of Intellectual Property India for the year 2022-2023 has officially recognized this outstanding achievement in research, innovation, and invention by LPU.
According to the report, LPU filed a staggering 1,387 patent applications, surpassing the combined total of 803 filings by all IITs. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) filed 84 patent applications, and the CSIR filed 231 applications during the same period. This accomplishment highlights LPU's commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and making significant contributions to the world of intellectual property.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Rajya Sabha and Founder Chancellor of LPU, congratulated all the researchers and scientists at the university for their tireless endeavors in placing India on the global innovation map. India has consistently ranked among the top innovative economies worldwide, and LPU's remarkable performance in research, innovation, and invention plays a pivotal role in this achievement. The Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (CGPDTM), under the Government of India, administers Intellectual Property in the country.
Stanford University, USA, recognizes many faculty members from LPU among the top 2 percent of scientists in the world. With over 22,000 publications, 129,000 Scopus citations, a H-Index of 118, more than 1,800 granted IPRs, 9,450+ funded projects, and 550+ global tie-ups, LPU has consistently fostered research, innovation, invention, and knowledge creation. Notably, LPU's scientists have made significant contributions during the challenging COVID-19 period by developing useful gadgets, medications, and systems to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
The Division of Research and Development (DRD) at LPU plays a vital role in strengthening and supporting research in STEM, Humanities, and Management. The university places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and innovation, fostering well-equipped labs, and cultivating a culture of collaboration within and outside the institution. LPU's various departments house state-of-the-art instrumentation to facilitate research in high-priority areas, providing a robust ecosystem to support innovation.
