Agitating Ladakhi groups’ to hold crucial meeting with Centre’s panel today

Jammu, Feb 23: A crucial meeting between the sub-committee constituted by the agitating Ladakhi groups will be held with the High-Power Committee (HPC) of the Union Home Ministry on Saturday in New Delhi.
Following a productive meeting with the HPC on January 19, the agitating groups opted to defer their indefinite hunger strike, initially slated to commence on February 20.
Notably, leaders from the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) engaged in discussions with the Union Home Ministry's high-powered committee on February 19 in Delhi.
During the preceding January 19 meeting, it was agreed upon that the next round of discussions would occur on February 24 with the sub-committee representing the agitating groups.
The dialogue continues to focus on reaching consensus across various critical issues, including the Ladakh community's demand for statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, along with the establishment of an exclusive Public Service Commission for Ladakh.

Comprising representatives such as Thupstan Chhewang Chering Dorjay Lakrook, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Qamar Ali Akhoon, Asgar Ali Karbalai, and Sajjad Kargili, this sub-committee embodies the collective voice of the Ladakhi people.
On February 3, Leh witnessed a massive protest following the "Leh Chalo" call issued by the agitating groups, while Kargil observed a complete shutdown in solidarity with the KDA's initiative. These actions underscored support for the Ladakhi community's four-point agenda, encompassing statehood, constitutional safeguards, employment opportunities, and equitable representation in government bodies.
The inaugural dialogue between the Ladakhi agitators and the HPC, chaired by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, took place in New Delhi on December 4, 2023.
This ongoing engagement reflects a concerted effort to address the aspirations and concerns of the Ladakhi populace, signaling a pivotal step towards meaningful resolution and inclusive governance.
