Jammu, Feb 25: Amid a joining spree in the party, the BJP is trying to rope in a prominent leader of the National Conference from Kashmir Valley to field him as the party’s candidate for the Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary seat. Highly placed sources in the BJP revealed that the said National Conference leader has yet not given his consent to join the Saffron Party but some national-level leaders of the BJP are still trying to convince in this regard. Sources said that the said leader, who is known for credentials and nationalist approach, has a strong following in different parts of the Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary constituency which is presently being represented by the National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah. “It is too early to confirm the joining of this mass-base National Conference leader in the BJP but sincere efforts are being made by the local as well a The BJP is trying to rope in a prominent NC leader for the Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary seat. The NC leader has yet not given his consent to join the Saffron Party Some national-level BJP leaders are trying to convince him in this regard. The leader, who is known for his nationalist approach, has a strong following in different parts of the Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary constituency central leadership”, a source in the party said. Sources said that BJP is looking for a strong and potential candidate for the Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary seat so the party is trying its best to convince this leader to accept the proposal. While a number of strong candidates have expressed their desire to contest on the newly carved Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary constituency, party is hopeful that Muzaffar Hussain Beigh will contest election on Baramulla Lok Sabha as Independent candidate. “Biggest challenge before the party is to select a potential candidate on Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat”, sources said. Important to mention here that after granting of Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari ethnic community, a large number of prominent leaders from this community have joined the party. Majority of the Pahari leaders who have joined the BJP were associated with the National Conference. |
