Soz presides over Cultural Evening
JK Artists mesmerize audience at JK Festival

New Delhi, Feb 24- On second day of the ongoing “Jammu Kashmir Festival” at New Delhi, 150 artists from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, mesmerized the audience with their spellbound performance held at Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts, New Delhi. Prof. Saif –ud-Din, Union Minister for Water Resources presided over the colourful evening of Music and Dance which was also witnessed by a large number of dignitaries, high officials of various embassies, besides a galaxy of people from all walks of life.
This 8-day long maiden event has been jointly by organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts, New Delhi.
In his welcome address Zafar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Arts and Culture said that "We have gathered over 200 artists from the valley, equal number of artists from Jammu and about 100 artists from Ladakh to be part of this very Cultural extravaganza which was organized with the solo aim of bringing the centuries old cultural tradition of our state and its various dimensions to the heart of the country,"
He added that "It is also important to tell people of India at large about the contribution of J&K to this country in various fields of Art, Culture and Languages"
Appreciating the Academy and IGNCA for holding this purposeful event in the capital city of India, Soz said that this is the high time to preserve and promote the diverse and plural culture of the state as it is facing the threat of vanishing due to rapid development.
The Water Resources Minister also took a round of stalls displayed on the occasion and appreciated some of the rare paintings of indigenous architecture of Kashmir and Jammu, digital photographs of Ladakhi monasteries, old manuscripts, photo documentation of manuscript heritage depicting composite culture of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh.
In morning session five documentaries entitled Hemis Fetival , Musafar, Paradise on a River of Hell and Hemis were showed while Padama Sachdev and C L Saproo delivered lectures on the topics “Dogri Literature” and “Contribution of Oral tradition to Development of Kashmir Culture” respectively.
Stalls of all crafts material of Kashmir including carpets, Namdas, curtain cloth, paper machie, wood carving, basketries, shawls, dresses , metal items, are the other attractions for the visitors.
