| JUTA demands central university status to JU | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 24- Jammu University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) has strongly demanded Central University status to the University of Jammu and implementation of the UGC 6th pay commission recommendation in toto. Addressing media persons here today, the JUTA President Prof N K said the need to convert the University of Jammu to the Central University is on the basis of the availability of infrastructure, well groomed faculty, national and international collaborations as well as placement of the students. It is important to mention that this university may turn as a fringe university and thereby wasting the investment made in the last forty years if the Central University status is granted to the University of Jammu. In regard to the new pay scales of the UGC the JUTA has requested the Chancellor and the Pro-Chancellor, who is also the chief minister of the state, to implement the recommendations in toto. The UGC in this regard is to provide the 80% of the funding. They also highlighted that in regard to the implementation of the pay scales, the Kashmir University Teachers’ Association (KUTA) had also been in Jammu to meet the Chief Minister jointly with JUTA. But due to the pressing schedule of the Chief Minister, the meeting could not take place. Dr Neeru Sharma, Vice-President, Dr. Rajeev Rattan Sharma, Secretary, Dr. Lalitsen Sharma, Joint-Secretary and Virender Koundal, Treasurer of JUTA were also present on the occasion.
