RAJOURI, Feb 28: In an enlightening endeavor to delve into the intricate relationship between science and religion, the Department of Biotechnology at Govt. P.G. College Rajouri organized a thought-provoking seminar on the 27th of February, 2024. Under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad, Principal of the college, and Dr. Azhar Javed, Head of Biotechnology Department, the seminar witnessed active participation from faculty members, heads of different departments, and a large contingent of enthusiastic students.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Riyaz Ahmed, convenor of IQAC and HOD of Computer Sciences, setting the stage for an engaging discourse. Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad delivered a captivating presentation, underscoring the significant roles played by both science and religion in shaping individuals and societies. Emphasizing the importance of scientific advancement, Dr. Azad highlighted milestones from Mendel's Genetics to Watson's DNA, juxtaposed with the profound moral teachings of religion.
Dr. Azhar Javed further elucidated on the advancements in science, ranging from the Renaissance era to contemporary breakthroughs in genomics and cytomics, citing examples of GM crops and CRISPR technology. He underscored the complementary nature of science and religion, advocating for a harmonious balance between scientific inquiry and spiritual enlightenment.
Professor Makhdoom Ahmed enriched the discourse by highlighting the intrinsic connection between science and religion, drawing parallels between aviation designs inspired by birds and the principles enshrined in religious scriptures. The seminar also provided a platform for students, including Mehren, Mushkoor, Somina, Owis, and Danish, to share their perspectives on the interplay between science and religion, enriching the dialogue with diverse insights.
As the seminar drew to a close, Professor Altaf Ahmed, HOD of Geology, extended a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants for their invaluable contributions towards fostering a deeper understanding of the profound relationship between science and religion. The seminar on "Science and Religion" at Govt. P.G. College Rajouri served as a testament to the college's commitment to nurturing holistic education that encompasses both intellectual inquiry and spiritual enlightenment, paving the way for a more enlightened and harmonious society.
