| MIC to came up at Samba: Slathia | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, February 24 –The valedictory function of 10 Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) concluded today at Samba, Minister for Industries and Commerce Mr. Surjeet Singh Salathia chaired the function. The EDP training which is mandatory for every prospective beneficiary of PMEGP is organized with the objective to develop entrepreneurial skills in them so that they can establish sustainable units. The programme was presided over by the Secretary, Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB), Dr. A. Rashid and attended by the senior officers of KVIB and a large number of local rural employed artisans.
The Minister, while speaking on the occasion said that government is drawing ambitious plans and is keen to set up Micro Industrial Centre is Samba district, so that employment opportunities are provided at the door steps to the unemployed artisans. He said that small scale industrial units have pivotal role in the socio economic transformation especially in rural and far flung areas. He appealed to the participants to come forward and available the benefits of the PMEGP being implemented by the KVIB.
While addressing the gathering the Secretary said that area specified industrial schemes which are economically viable and financial feasible are being sponsored by KVIB. He informed that the KVIB participants was initially allotted a target for establishment of 262 units involving a margin money of Rs. 314.22 lakhs during the year 2008-09 and on the direction of Industries Minister the issue regarding enhancement of targets was taken up with Ministry of Medium and Small Enterprises and the said Ministry has in principal agreed to enhance the targets under PMEGP for J&K KVIB to 1000 units involving the project cost of Rs. 40 crore, margin money of Rs. 1214.22 lakhs thereby creating employment opportunities for 12000 persons. He said that the Board is trying to upgrade the entrepreneurship skill of entrepreneurs to equip them with the necessary skills to ensure in the competitive business environment.
Director EDP, Dr. M.I. Parry highlighted the role of JK EDI and said that institution shall impart the necessary entrepreneurship development training to the entrepreneurs who have been provided financial assistance under PMEGP
