Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 29: Following the announcement of the Ladakh Subordinate Services Staff Selection Board (LSSSSB) by the Union Territory administration, the Central government has scheduled a meeting with protesting groups for March 4th, aiming to address their concerns before the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
In response to demands put forth by the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance, a sub-committee has been formed, as per an order by Sunil Kumar, Under Secretary Government of India. This sub-committee is set to convene on March 4, 2024, at 4 pm in Room Number 124, First Floor, MHA, New Delhi. Representatives from the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) will attend to discuss pertinent issues before the impending Lok Sabha elections.
Following a constructive meeting last week with the High-Power Committee (HPC) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, members of the sub-committee are currently engaged in further consultations in Delhi. There's a palpable sense of optimism among Ladakhi groups regarding potential resolutions to their grievances after this fruitful interaction.

The formation of the sub-committee, comprising prominent figures from Ladakh, including Thupstan Chhewang, Chering Dorjay Lakrook, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Qamar Ali Akhoon, Asgar Ali Karbalai, and Sajjad Kargili, underscores efforts to engage in meaningful dialogue with the Union Government.
The establishment of the LSSSSB is a significant step towards addressing Ladakhi youth's concerns regarding employment and recruitment. Through this autonomous body, the Union Territory administration aims to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process while leveraging technology for efficient outcomes.
By exercising powers conferred by the Constitution of India and relevant statutes, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh has initiated measures to regulate recruitment processes, emphasizing fairness and transparency in the selection of candidates for Group ‘B’ (Non-Gazetted) and all Group ‘C’ UT/Divisional Cadre posts.
In essence, these developments reflect a concerted effort by both central and local authorities to address the pressing issues facing the people of Ladakh, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.
