UDHAMPUR, Mar 1: The Department of Physical Education at Government Degree College (GDC), Udhampur, orchestrated a captivating Intra College Table Tennis Tournament (Men) from February 29th to March 1st, 2024, showcasing the remarkable athletic prowess of its students. The tournament unfolded amidst fervent enthusiasm in the indoor Sports ground of GDC Udhampur.
Gracing the occasion as the esteemed chief guest was Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, whose presence added a significant aura to the event. The chief guest was ceremoniously escorted to the sports ground by the NCC Cadets, marking the commencement of an exhilarating display of sportsmanship.
Shashi Sharma, the esteemed Physical Training Instructor, extended a warm welcome to Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta, emphasizing the cognitive benefits of table tennis and its role in enhancing brain activity among players.
In his address to the students, the venerable Principal Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta underscored the indispensable role of sports in fostering essential life skills such as discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and cooperation. He lauded the efforts of the Sports committee for their meticulous organization, which not only promotes a competitive spirit but also cultivates character and personality among the participants.
A total of 36 students from various semesters enthusiastically participated in the tournament, adding to the fervor of the event. The knockout matches kicked off on February 29th, 2024, while the semi-finals and finals ensued on March 1st, 2024.
The semi-final bouts witnessed intense clashes, with Sourav Sharma overpowering Prince Gupta with a commanding 3-1 set score, and Ayush Gupta securing victory over Novam Rajput.
In a riveting final match, Sourav Sharma emerged as the undisputed champion, triumphing over Ayush Gupta, thereby clinching the prestigious title of the Table Tennis Tournament.
The winners were rightfully honored with medals and trophies during a grand felicitation ceremony, adding a touch of grandeur to their remarkable achievements.
The seamless execution of the event was attributed to the diligent supervision of Dr. Mohinder Pal, Convenor Sports Committee, and Shashi Sharma, Physical Training Instructor, whose guidance ensured the smooth progression of the tournament.
The event also witnessed the gracious presence of Prof. Babu Lal Thakur, Dr. Sukh Chain, and Dr. Jagjeet Singh, further enriching the celebratory ambiance.
The Intra College Table Tennis Tournament at GDC Udhampur not only showcased exceptional sporting talent but also reiterated the institution's commitment to nurturing holistic development among its students through the medium of sports.
