NCDC, SKUAST Empower Fish Farmers in Doda through Training Program

Doda, Mar 1: The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), Chandigarh, in collaboration with Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), successfully organized a comprehensive three-day training program aimed at bolstering the capabilities of Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs) in the Doda district of Jammu region.
Under the leadership of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, a Fish Farmers Producer Organization (FFPO) has been established in district Doda. The training program was inaugurated by Dr. Sudhakar Dwivedi, Dean Student Welfare, SKUAST-Jammu, in the presence of Sh. Joginder Lal Sharma, Assistant Director Fisheries, Doda, and Sh. Krishan Sachdev, Nodal Officer from NCDC.
The program, meticulously designed to enhance the knowledge base and capabilities of fish farmers associated with FFPOs, covered a wide array of topics essential for sustainable growth in the fisheries sector. Participants engaged with experts and industry professionals who shared insights on best practices, technological advancements, and market trends. Key highlights included technical sessions, discussions, and practical demonstrations on various aspects of fish farming such as pond management, fish breeding, disease control, feed management, and post-harvest handling techniques.
Additionally, guidance on market linkages, financial management, budgeting, credit facilities, value chain analysis, and legal and regulatory commitments were provided to FFPO members. A dedicated session on government schemes and subsidies available for the fisheries sector further enriched the program.
The training program garnered an enthusiastic response from fish farmers and stakeholders, underscoring the growing interest in adopting modern agricultural practices to enhance productivity and profitability in the fisheries sector.
Dr. G.N. Jha coordinated the program, with expert interactions facilitated by Dr. Amit Charak, Head of KVK Doda, Dr. Raj Kumar, Head of KVK Ramban, Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Associate Professor, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Dr. Satesh Sharma, Sh. Kafeel from NCDC, and representatives from SKUAST-Jammu, including Ramanpreet Kour and Sagarika Gandotra.
The successful collaboration between NCDC and SKUAST-Jammu exemplifies a concerted effort towards empowering fish farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
