| “Jammu Kashmir Festival” | | Documentaries on Faiz, Padma screened | | New Delhi, Feb 25- On the third day of ongoing 8-day long “Jammu-Kashmir Festival” at New Delhi, the artists of Jammu , Kashmir and Ladakh today presented a multicolored cultural extravaganza showcasing the richest tradition of performing arts and music of the State. Hundreds of spectators witnessed this open air program jointly organized by the Jammu and Kashmir State Academy and Indira Gandhi Centre for Arts New Delhi and held at Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts. Among other dignitaries including high official of State and Centre, Madan Lal Sharma , Member , Parliament from J&K and Dr. K K Chakravarty, Member Secretary , IGNCA were also present on the occasion. Welcoming the guests Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary Cultural Academy stated that this is first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that eight day long Festival of J-K state has been going on here in the heart of our country. He said that response of Delhi towards our cultural heritage is beyond our expectations adding that we are also thinking about further extension of this event. He said the State Governor N N Vohra will inaugurate and preside the “J K Big Show” an Extravaganza titled “Music Ensemble” in which renowned instrumentalists of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh will perform on February 28. Amazing Digital photographs of oldest Monasteries of Ladakh region, oldest Manuscripts, rarest paintings of indigenous architecture of Kashmir and Jammu, Photo documentation of manuscript heritage depicting composite culture of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh attracted the visitors of the festival in a big way. The five documentaries screened at Film Studio of IGNCA today including one on the life and work of versatile Urdu Poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, another on the contribution of famous Dogri poetess Padma Sachdev towards recognition of Dogri language were highly appreciated by the viewers.
