JAMMU, Mar 3: In a momentous ceremony held at the Press Club of Jammu, Vivek Chauhan, the Principal of Oriental Academy Sr. Secondary School and a distinguished member of Tawi Trekkers J&K, was bestowed with the esteemed title of Honorary Patron of District Mountaineering Association, Jammu. This recognition stands as a testament to Chauhan's unwavering commitment and significant contributions towards the advancement of adventure activities in the region.
The ceremony, graced by esteemed dignitaries, witnessed the Chief Guest Ashwani Sharma, former MLA, leading the felicitation of Vivek Chauhan. Notable personalities including Rahul Sharma, Chairman of Sprawling Buds ICSE School and Patron of Tawi Trekkers J&K; Rameshwar Mengi, Chairman of Shiksha Niketan Group of Schools; and Sanjeev Gupta, Chairman of The Shri Ram Universal School, Jakh, extended their warm greetings to the newly appointed Patron. Rakesh Goswami, President, and Sonam Sidharth, General Secretary, alongside other members of the District Mountaineering Association, Jammu, expressed their admiration and appreciation for Vivek Chauhan's longstanding dedication. Shawetica Khajuria, while reading the citation, highlighted the pivotal role of Oriental Academy in fostering a culture of adventure sports, tracing back to its association with Tawi Trekkers J&K since 1983.
Khajuria underscored Chauhan's personal initiatives in sponsoring coaching camps for aspiring climbers, both in Jammu and at the Indian Mountaineering Foundation in New Delhi. These efforts, she noted, have borne fruit, as evidenced by Jammu's emergence as a breeding ground for top-ranked national climbers, exemplified by Shivani Charak, the first female athlete from J&K to participate in the Asian Games.
In his response, Vivek Chauhan expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him by the District Mountaineering Association, reaffirming his commitment to furthering the cause of adventure activities in the region. He pledged continued support and collaboration to nurture budding talent and promote a spirit of adventure among the youth.
The ceremony concluded on a note of camaraderie and mutual appreciation, symbolizing the collective resolve to elevate Jammu as a hub for adventure sports and mountaineering excellence under Chauhan's esteemed patronage.
