GDC Ramnagar hosts workshop on EVM and VVPAT

RAMNAGAR, Mar 4: As part of its ongoing initiatives during Azaadi Ka Amrut Kaal, aimed at fostering a Sashakt and Viksit Bharat (Empowered and Developed India), the SVEEP Cell in collaboration with the Viksit Bharat Cell of Government Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar organized a one-day workshop on understanding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) systems.
The workshop, held in the college's conference hall, featured the screening of a short film titled "How to use EVM machine for voting: Understanding EVM Functionality". Under the patronage of Principal Dr. Bhavnaish Chand Anthal, the program was meticulously supervised by Dr. Pankaj Sharma, Convener of the Viksit Bharat Cell, and Dr. Sunil Kumar, Convener of the SVEEP Cell. Addressing the attendees, Principal Dr. Bhavnaish Chand Anthal emphasized the critical role of EVMs in ensuring fair and efficient elections, underscoring the importance of dispelling misconceptions and enhancing voter awareness. He stressed the need for maximum voter participation and registration to elect the new government in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Dr. Pankaj Sharma highlighted the significance of the informative short film in providing insights into the functionality of EVMs and VVPAT machines, including the voting process and security measures. Dr. Sunil Kumar echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of an informed electorate in bolstering democracy. Following the screening, an interactive Q&A session provided attendees with the opportunity to engage with the speakers and deepen their understanding of electoral technology. Dr. Jeewan Kumar, HOD Sanskrit, concluded the program with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors, including SVEEP Volunteers, students, and teaching faculty members such as Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Prof. Jatinder Lal, Prof. Sadia Sana, and Dr. Gowhar, among others. The workshop served as a commendable effort towards promoting transparency and understanding in the electoral process, aligning with the college's commitment to nurturing informed and responsible citizens.
