KVK imparts training on natural farming

REASI, Mar 5: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) began two days training programme on natural farming under "Up scaling of Natural Farming" project here today at Chatter village in Reasi distt. of J&K which was enthusiastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organised to train the farmers on natural farming and guide them on the various practices of natural farming. The programme was organized under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof.BN Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. Sr. Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed participants and briefed the significance of natural farming. He elaborated the concept of natural farming and discussed in detail on the seed treatment using Beejamrit. He said that natural farming is based on the principles of biodiversity, soil regeneration and water conservation. He added that Reasi district of J&K has huge potential in natural farming and the farmers of the area can generate more income by producing the safe and nutritious food through natural farming. He said that for a healthy society, chemical free and healthy food is required and natural farming can play the significant role for the production of safe and healthy food. He elaborated the four pillars of natural farming and demonstrated the preparation of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit. He added that natural farming is the need of the hour and informed that it is beneficial for the maintenance soil health, human health and biodiversity. He stressed on the cluster based approach required for natural farming. He further expressed that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity. He discussed on the importance of farm fields as a source of organic matter and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. He informed that natural farming is helpful to increase the income of the farmers by reducing the cost of cultivation. He also highlighted the practices of mulching, Acchadana (moisture) and various other biocontrol agents required for the natural farming. He also discussed in detail on the preparation and uses of Neemastra, Agniastra, Brahmatra, Panchgavya etc. Progressive farmer of the area, Anita Devi was also present during the event. During the programme plastic barrels and other inputs required for natural farming formulations were also distributed among the participants.
