| Cut down VIP security | | |
Khushwant S Ranial
Whenever a terrorists related incident does take place, it is largely seen that a security review meeting is held to assess the security scenario and measures to be evolved in re strengthening the security umbrella of the VIPs at the expense of the hapless innocents citizens who are left to the mercy of God. This trend has been in prevalence for decades together till date. Whom to blame for such an extra care? Are these VVIPs more loyalist to the nation.?or they are the national treasure like Taj Mahal ,Parliament House. ,Qutab Minar,Gateway of India. etc. who have to be preserved and protected keeping in mind their sanctity and cultural heritage for the transmission to the upcoming generations .We must not forget that the security cover of a simple politician cost crores per year and the net output against such investment to the nation is ridiculous and disheartening one. Now a cry is heard from different sections of society that sooner the reduction does take place , the better it would be for the betterment of the nation. The attack on economic centre of India on 26 /11 at Mumbai proved to be an eye –opener for the whole of the nation asking politicians about their own security and safety. To save their own skin from the public wrath, politicians without delay, under the stress and strain opted to quit the job by seeking general apology from the public for not affording suitable security cover to common masses. Ex Home Minister of the country Shiv Raj Patil gave way to new nominated HM Sh.P chidambram who was accorded Z Plus security but he refused to avail stating satisfaction with the existing one of Y plus category. It shown the magnanimous approach of the new HM towards the realities of the nature and strong beliefs he holds in the law of Nature .Otherwise had any one else been asked to avail the opportunity definitely without second thought the gainer would have availed without delay by counting it be upward mobility in his Status Symbol .Politicians are provided the security cover almost throughout the year. In other words a politician costs Rs 6 lac per minute and 1 crore 42 lakhs per day.. As per survey only a handful of the politicians sans the security cover and move fearlessly .Rest do not dare to muster courage to move out with the rich security care. To add to the woe is that apart these politicians, security are being sought by the Judges, bureaucrats, Municipal commissioners, administrators and Sarpanches etc. All such has has created nuisance in the public life as the for a common individual it becomes very hard to have an access in the epicenter of the concentric circles formed by these security personnel’s to share ones feelings. This huge amount of the security has drained the economy of the India .Apart due to high availability on one aspect has led to weaken the intelligence set up the country .Realizing the gravity of the situation ,Punjab chief Minister recently assured to reduce the strength of his security to beef the intelligence apparatus ,Even the Delhi Govt. has also decided to downsize their own security to afford for the intelligence collection and dissemination .Prior to this decision, Delhi Police and Punjab Police had deployed 6000 and 8000 police personnel respectively to their VIPs .Now keeping in view the security threat perception to the common person it has become important to make suitable arrangements for the common person as well .Such squeezing process must take place at the other fronts in different parts of this country . There is ample scope of reduction of security cover of the half of VIPs who now enjoy over blown protection. Who so ever is very much scared, he should secure at his own by generating his own resources and not at the expense of the Govt. expenditure. Why should a poor person whose average daily income does not exceed beyond Rs 15 should accommodate Rs 2 crore almost daily for the democratically elected representative. Further there is no need to afford security to the bureaucrats, judges, Muncipilars and Sarpanches. They all are the part of the Govt. machinery and do not require the royal standards to emulate the standards of old royals and nobles. In fact, their oversized protection must also be withdrawn and put into the service of law and order, regulation of the traffic management and collection and dissemination of intelligence. Such an attempt will definitely reduce the extra pressure borne by the existing strength enabling them to deliver justice to the poor common masses. Also this will lower the suicidal bids made by the men in uniform who due to extreme hard duties fail to coop the extra psychological strains and every now and then it is reportedly heard and learnt that belt officials have either shot his counterpart or superior for no fault of theirs In gist let good sense prevail upon the politicians to shed the craze of status symbol and gear their attitude towards the betterment of the society through the reformatory measures. Until these leaders themselves do not lift the cherished values enshrined in our constitution, it is very hard to expect miracles and such terror related acts will keep on taking place here and there at the intermittent levels causing havoc to the hapless citizens of the state and society.
