Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 6: The Central Government is ready to grant constitutional safeguards to protect the land and job rights of the residents of Ladakh through the elected bodies of the cold desert.
Highly placed sources said that during the crucial meeting on March 4, representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs assured granting constitutional safeguards to the residents of Ladakh but agitating groups were adamant about bypassing the elected bodies. Representatives of the High Power Committee (HPC) of the Ministry of Home Affairs asked members of the sub-committee of the agitating groups that the Centre was ready to grant some concessions to the inhabitants of Ladakh provided elected bodies should also be involved in the process.
“Instead of involving two elected bodies of Leh and Kargil, the agitating groups were adamant that a decision should be taken in the meeting by ignoring the elected bodies”, sources said.

Important to mention here that the much-awaited fourth round of crucial talks between agitating groups of Ladakh and the High Power Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs ended in a deadlock on March 4 as the former were unhappy with the meeting.
As their meeting with the HPC ended in a deadlock, the representatives of the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) met the Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence.
According to a handout issued by the agitating groups, the meeting with the Union Home Minister too did not result in any positive outcome. This was the first meeting of the Ladakh groups with the Union Home Minister since 2020.
Monday’s was the fourth meeting within a span of three months between the MHA and representatives from LAB and KDA.
