Jammu, Feb 25: The Kashmir Valley is against back to the brink with the public protests and action from the security forces becoming order of the day.
Meanwhile a teenager sustained bullet injury while several persons were injured in wide protest demonstrations against the killing of two students in apple town of Baramulla district in North Kashmir on Saturday evening and mysterious death of an auto driver, relative of JKLF chief Yasin Malik yesterday.
Sources said that police and Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force opened fire on protesters in Baramulla after bursting of tear smoke shells and repeated baton charge to disperse the protesters at old town in Baramulla.
Raising pro-freedom and “anti-India” slogans, hundreds of people took to streets this morning in the town and staged massive protests against the killing to two students in Sopore.
Police and CRPF, deployed in strength in the area, swung into action and resorted to baton charge to disperse the protesters, sources said.
However, they said, demonstrators offered a stiff resistance and later Police and CRPF first resorted to teargas shelling and then opened fire to disperse them.
Official sources said that Imtiyaz Ahmad , a teenager sustained bullet injury while nearly a dozen persons were wounded in the ding dong battles that continued all day long.
Meanwhile, official sources told Press Bureau of India that more than 30 people, including cops and media men were injured in day-long clashes that erupted in Srinagar following the death of Sheikh on Tuesday.
Reports said that strict restrictions were put in place in Srinagar and other districts of the valley to foil the attempt of people to reach North Kashmir’s Sopore to participate in the Chaharum (fourth day ceremony) of the deceased Sopore youth.
All shops, government offices, public sector undertakings, ratio depots, petrol pumps remained closed due to the restrictions.
Streets in Srinagar and else where wore a deserted look with Paramilitary CRPF troops and policemen deployed at every lane and by lane of this capital city to prevent people from venturing out of their homes.
Despite tightened security, people at many places in Srinagar and North Kashmir took to streets to lodge their protests against the troop’s atrocities and Killings of youth by Army at Bumai, Sopore.
Reports said that clashes erupted in many areas of uptown where early morning groups of youth appeared on streets and staged pro-freedom, anti-India demonstrations.
Chanting pro-freedom, pro-Islam and anti-India, anti troop’s slogans, hundreds of people mainly youth took to streets in Maisuma, Natipora, Barzulla, Rambagh, Chanapora, Batmaloo and other areas to register their protest against the killing of Sopore youth.
The protesters tried to march on the streets of the city, but the heavy posse of troops and policemen that were deployed in advance intercepted them and resorted to cane charge besides firing scores of tear smoke shells. In retaliation, the protesters pelted stones on the troops and policemen triggering fierce clashes.
Reports said that, five policemen and a photo-journalist were injured at Baghat-e-Barzulla while nine protestors received injuries in police action at Rambagh and Batmaloo localities.
Meanwhile, reports reaching PBI from North Kashmir said that protests and clashes continued for fourth consecutive day against the killing of Devotees at Bumai, Sopore last week.
Reports from Sopore said that thousands of people took out a procession from Bumai where Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles on Saturday opened fire on devotees resulting in death of two persons and injuries to many.
