Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 7: Amid ongoing discussions with former minister Choudhary Lal Singh for the Udhampur-Doda seat, Congress leadership is considering names of some fresh faces for the Jammu-Reasi Parliamentary constituency to give a tough fight to the BJP.
Highly placed sources said that Congress leadership is seriously considering the name of a prominent Dalit face for the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seat where Scheduled Caste (SC) votes are a deciding factor.
“Discussions are going in different names but party leadership is seriously considering giving a mandate to the Dalit leader on this seat”, a source in the Congress said and added that SC votes are annoyed with the pro-rich policies being propagated by the BJP.
“By fielding a Dalit candidate on Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat agenda of the Congress is to consolidate vote bank for the next assembly elections in the Union Territory of J&K”, sources said, adding, “fielding an SC candidate would help the party to retrieve its vote bank in Jammu province by mobilizing a marginalized lot of the society”.
Sources said that Congress leadership wants to create a history by first time giving party’s mandate to a Dalit face on the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha constituency.

Meanwhile, discussions were going on with Choudhary Lal Singh to field him as a candidate for the prestigious Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat where BJP’s stalwart Dr. Jitendra Singh is the party’s candidate.
Sources said that Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Vikar Rasool Wani was camping with Choudhary Lal Singh in Delhi for the last two days.
“Discussions are at the final stage and things will be cleared within a day or two”, a source said and added that through his old relations, Choudhary Lal Singh opened the channel of communication with some senior Congress leaders.
As reported earlier, PCC chief Vikar Rasool Wani is working assiduously to manage the party’s mandate for Choudhary Lal Singh in Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat to give a tough fight to the BJP’s strong candidate and two-time Lok Sabha member Dr. Jitendra Singh.
Sources said that Vikar Rasool Wani has given a clear message to the high command that Choudhary Lal Singh is the only leader in the Kathua-Udhampur-Doda belt who has the potential to give a tough fight to BJP on this seat.
