PAGD dismantled; NC, PDP part ways officially
3/8/2024 11:08:48 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 8: Finally Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) stands dismantled as National Conference has announced that it would contest all the three Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir while Peoples Democratic Party has blamed NC for turning PAGD into a “joke.”
Omar, while talking to reporters in Srinagar, said, “The situation has kept the PDP out & not the National Conference. How can we leave South Kashmir for the PDP which came third in the 2019 LS polls. They (PDP) talk about alliance but target only NC in rallies and tweets.”
Soon after the NC announced that the party would contest all the three seats in the Kashmir and asked the Congress to contest on two seats in the Jammu region, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said the NC’s decision was “disappointing” and a “setback to the hopes of the people of J&K”.
“Omar has himself said that the PDP is out of the alliance. You can see who has broken the alliance. We did not. It is disappointing to see it shattered. They have reduced PAGD to a joke,” she said, adding, “What the BJP couldn’t do (breaking PAGD), has been done by a member of the alliance.”
“PDP tried its best to exert pressure on the NC to leave South Kashmir seat for Mehbooba Mufti and advised Omar Abdullah to contest from Srinagar seat,” an observer told Early Times.
He said, “PDP’s move backfired as NC didn’t relent. As of date PDP has been left to decide what it wants to do. Will it contest the Lok Sabha polls or will allow NC and Congress to go ahead.”
The observer said, “It’s crystal clear that PDP has emerged as the biggest loser in J&K and will have to work very hard to regain its lost ground. Mehbooba needs to think about contesting from Anantnag-Rajouri seat rather than allowing NC and Congress to get away with everything.”
