| Use earthen wares, jute papers to save environment: Experts | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEBRUARY 26 -In order to generate awareness to promote manufacturing of hundred percent biodegradable and decomposable products, a lecture was organised today at Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), J&K Regional Branch this evening. Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department Mrs. Sonali Kumar was the chief guest while Chairman, IIPA, Dr. S. S. Bloeria presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Kumar said that the use of plastics and polythene is harmful to the human health as some toxic chemicals like viny chloride, ethane, phenol, formaldehyde, urea, acetylene and benzene are used in their manufacturing. She stressed making people aware about the ill affects of pollution. Cautioning people she said that polythene, plastics are non-biodegradable and during the recycling process, plastic syringe, pesticides containers, medicinal bottles, soles of shoes and polythene bags are melted at 200 to 250 degree centigrade for manufacturing different articles which are environment unfriendly. She advised people to use earthen wares, jute bags and paper cards instead of polythene and plastics. In his address, Dr. Bloeria endorsed use of environment friendly products which include mulching film for agriculture and floriculture, plant pots and trays for floriculture, carry bags for all shopping applications, outer packaging material for all foodstuff and meats, and bin liners for hotels and clubs. Regarding India’s first integrated biopolymer facility, he informed that the plant is capable of producing 70 M.T. of finished products per month with a yearly turnover of Rs. 30 crore. Mr Bloeria said that given the preferential position of the northern states such projects with project cost of Rs. 5 crore including working capital Rs. 3 crore can earn profit Rs. 100 lakh in first year. Managing Director, Agro-Industries Mr. G. N. Qasba highlighted the achievements and targets of the institution.
