Assembly discusses Governor’s address

Jammu, February 26 – The discussion on Motion of Thanks on Governor’s Address, delivered to Joint Session of the Legislature on February 25, commenced in the Legislative Assembly today.
The Motion was moved by Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan of NC, seconded by Mr. Raman Bhalla of the Congress. Initiating the discussion, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan said that massive participation of people in the Assembly elections despite heavy odds reflect people’s faith in democratic institutions and getting their problems highlighted and mitigated through their representatives. He said that present Government would make every effort to reciprocate the people’s aspirations and providing them basic facilities.
Choudhary Ramzan suggested for immediate implementation of Working Groups’ recommendations for addressing the grievances of the people of the State. He said that upholding human rights and strengthening of State Human Rights Commission should be taken care of by the government. He said that unemployment problem be addressed by adopting a comprehensive employment policy, wherein industrial promotion and effective implementation of self-employment schemes should be the focal point. He also suggested for promotion of agro based industries, horticulture and tourism. He demanded extension of railway link up to far-flung Tangdar area. PDP Legislative Party leader, Ms Mehbooba Mufti, in her speech, said that protection of human rights and peace-building measures be given focused attention. She suggested for collective efforts for the restoration of peace and development in the State. She said that with a view to contain unemployment in the State and involving the local youth in peace process, fast-track recruitment of youth in police may be initiated. Sukhnandan Kumar, in his speech demanded quality seeds and fertilizers for the farmers, besides improving irrigation facilities before the onset of Kharif season. He also said that adequate power supply for irrigation pump sets be provided to the farmers Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, said that cutting across party lines, every one should come forward to contribute for restoration of peace in the State. He said that collective wisdom and vision was imperative to settle the issues concerning the people of the State Aijaz Jan, appreciating the measures afoot to rehabilitate the Kashmiri Pandit migrants, said that border migrants should also be given similar treatment in terms of rehabilitation.
