| No more exploitation of labour class: Slathia | | |
Early Times Report Jammu, February 26 – The Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia has said that to prevent exploitation of labour class, the Government has decided to do away with issuance of license to the labourer contractor who serve as middlemen and deprive the workforce of their minimum dues. He said that un-skilled and skilled labourers can be engaged directly by the industrial units so that they are saved from exploitation, the middleman.
The Minister was addressing a meeting of State Advisory Board held for fixation and revision of minimum wage here today. Terming industries as engines of economic growth and Mr. Slathia said that industrial expansion should be in consonance with the growing needs of the consumers and thus would also contribute in employment generation. The Minister asked the concerned authorities to settle all the pending court cases so that speedy justice is meted to the aggrieved. Among others present in the meeting were Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Mr. Anil Goswami, Commissioner Secretary, PWD, Mr. Mehboob Iqbal, Commissioner Secretary, Finance, Mr. Sudanshu Pandey, Commissioner Secretary, Labour, Mr. Khalid Habeeb, Managing Director, Power Development Corporation, Mr. Sandeep K. Naik, Labour Commissioner, Mr. B. D. Sharma and representatives of various trade and workers’ union. Earlier, the representatives put-forth various demands including accommodation, dispensary for labourers and categorization of work.
