3/10/2024 10:55:19 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 10: In a gripping portrayal of societal turmoil, Natrang’s weekly theatre series ‘Sunday Theatre’ featured Balwant Thakur’s Hindi play ‘AAG’ at Rani Park, Jammu. Directed by Neeraj Kant, the play delved into the pervasive issue of drug addiction, resonating with audiences as it depicted the devastating impact on individuals and communities.
Thakur’s narrative strategy diverged from a singular storyline, opting instead for a multi-faceted approach that underscored the widespread reach of the drug menace. Through various vignettes, ‘AAG’ illuminated the struggles of youth succumbing to peer pressure, the cyclical despair of rural alcoholism, and the chaotic aftermath of substance-induced violence within households.
One poignant sequence followed the journey of a young man striving for acceptance in college, only to find himself alienated for abstaining from intoxicants. Desperate to prove his maturity, he falls into the trap of substance abuse. In another, the play vividly portrayed the tragic consequences of alcoholism in a rural setting, where familial bonds are shattered amidst the haze of inebriation.
The cast delivered powerful performances, with actors such as Neeraj Kant, Kananpreet Kaur, and Amit Rana shining in their roles, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. Their portrayal of characters caught in the grip of addiction resonated deeply, amplifying the urgency of Thakur’s message.
The production received accolades for its timely exploration of a pressing social issue, urging collective action to combat the destructive force of drug addiction.
Through ‘AAG,’ Balwant Thakur implores society to confront this peril head-on and safeguard the future of humanity.
The seamless coordination of the show by Mohd. Yaseen ensured a compelling theatrical experience for all attendees, further enhancing the impact of Natrang’s presentation of ‘AAG’ at Rani Park, Jammu.
