Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 10: Four days have passed after the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) announced former minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori as a party candidate for the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat, the three-time MLA from Inderwal has not shown much enthusiasm to fight parliamentary elections.
Highly placed sources in the DPAP said that G M Saroori has yet not clear his stand on fighting the Lok Sabha elections despite the announcement of his candidature by the party leadership.
“Keeping in view the ongoing campaign in social media against DPAP for fielding candidate Saroori is reluctant to join the electoral battle”, sources said and added that social media is flooded with posts in which it is alleged that DPAP has announced to field candidate only to create division among anti-BJP votes. Sources said that some hardcore supporters of Saroori have suggested he should not contest Lok Sabha because the chances of the party winning the Udhampur were impossible. o suggested to Ghulam Mohammad Saroori that instead of wasting energy on Lok Sabha elections he should focus on the next assembly elections.
“The position of BJP is very strong on the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat so he (Saroori) would be dubbed as ‘voter cutter’ for BJP”, a source said.
Important to mention that DPAP on Wednesday announced Saroori as its candidate for the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming general polls.
The announcement was made at a public rally addressed by DPAP chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad at Chrar-e-Shareef in Budgam district of central Kashmir.
“For Udhampur-Doda, it is my intention and I will discuss it with others that G M Saroori will contest. He is the most senior leader and four-time MLA and vice chairperson of our party. I think I am active, but he is more active than me. He is the appropriate candidate. We have not yet taken a final decision, but we have zeroed in on the name,” Azad told reporters after the rally. The DPAP also announced Saroori’s name in a statement and on the party’s X handle.
