Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 11: Govt. College for Women Bhagwati Nagar, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Eco Club, organized a dynamic workshop titled "Role of a Citizen in making India Clean and Green." Under the esteemed patronage of Principal Dr. Meeru Abrol, the event aimed to instill environmental consciousness among citizens, particularly students, to propel India towards becoming a leader in environmental awareness.
Kewal Krishan Wadhera, a seasoned Social Activist and member of the Red Cross Society with extensive involvement in the Swachh Bharat Mission since 2016, served as the resource person for the workshop.
The workshop commenced with a warm welcome address by IQAC Coordinator Prof. Nisha Bhagat. Principal Dr. Meeru Abrol commended Kewal Krishan Wadhera for his unwavering dedication to the welfare of Indian citizens. She presented him with a bouquet and memento as tokens of respect and appreciation.
Wadhera delivered an engaging lecture on the significance of fostering environmental consciousness, stressing the pivotal role citizens, especially students, play in advancing India's environmental agenda. He underscored the urgency of phasing out single-use plastics and advocated for eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth bags, jute bags, and steel bottles to mitigate the adverse impacts of plastic pollution. Practical demonstrations on reusing and recycling everyday items, as well as segregating dry and wet waste for composting, were provided. Additionally, techniques for creating compost from dried flowers, fruit and vegetable peelings, and used tea leaves were shared.
An interactive session followed, wherein students actively participated in various activities aimed at conserving environmental resources. Participants were rewarded with eco-friendly handmade products as tokens of appreciation.
The workshop culminated with a plantation drive led by Wadhera, Principal Dr. Meeru Abrol, staff members, and students of the college. The entire event was meticulously organized under the supervision of Prof. Nisha Bhagat and Dr. Mosmi Raina.
The workshop served as an enlightening platform for fostering environmental awareness and empowering citizens, particularly students, to contribute towards making India cleaner and greener.
