Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 26: Leader of Opposition and the Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti said that the grace period for new coalition government is over as it has failed to protect the innocent lives of the people of Kashmir valley.
She was taking part in an adjournment motion on Sopore killings moved by PDP legislators in legislative assembly today. She further said that the unprovoked firing by the Army in Bomai village at Sopore which resulted into the death of two innocent youth has once again triggered the unrest and atmosphere of mistrust in the valley and people have started showing their resentment through protests and shutdown.
It is pertinent to mention here that after the agitation on Amarnath land was over, people rejected the poll boycott calls of separatists and participated democratic exercise (elections) in large numbers and added that between 60-70% of polling took place in recently concluded assembly elections which shows that the people of the Kashmir valley believes in ballot over the bullet, but our security forces again have started killing the innocent people for no fault of their. She further added that is this we are giving them. Enough is enough, for how long, the people will suffer and get killed daily. The water has gone over the head and govt. should come with some effective measures. She also cited the incident of Abdul Rashid Reshi of Pehalgam, a deaf and dumb man was killed by Security forces at Naka. This is total Human Rights violation and must be stopped. Another example, she cited was of Fida Hussain Bhat, who dead body was found in Parimpora village. The people have voted us to see that there should be check on injustice meted out with the people.
The killings also took place during our tenure but we need to check it. She asked the Chief Minister to take bold initiative and dictate terms to New Delhi and we should not look at them always. Lets us start withdrawal of Armed forces special powers act from Srinagar in beginning and then from Baramulla, Anantnag and other places. She also demanded withdrawal of Disturbed Area Act and replacement of Central Reserved Police Force with Local Police in phased manner so that people of the state especially of Kashmir valley feel secure. She also extended full support to government in removing these draconian acts and people friendly policies. She also sought implementation of recommendations of working group in which NC is a signatory.
She further said that the National Conference strength has gone down from 60 to 28 and PDP’s from 1 to 21 and this should be an eye opener to the govt. Javed Ahmed Dar, MLA from Rafiabad on Sopore killing said that this is an unfortunate incident and should be condemned by one and all. He further said that such kind of unfortunate incidents also took place in previous govt’s. tenure also but no action was taken.
