GDC Udhampur hosts SVEEP activities for Viksit Bharat

UDHAMPUR, Mar 14: In the spirit of Azadi Ka Amrut Kaal and the pursuit of a Sashakt and Viksit Bharat (Empowered and Developed India), the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Government Degree College Udhampur, in collaboration with the District Election Office, orchestrated a vibrant Voters Education and Awareness program as part of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, Gole Market, Udhampur.
The program aimed at educating both college students and the general public about the paramount importance of their participation in the electoral process. Commencing with a warm welcome address by senior NSS Volunteer Mr. Nitish Kalotra, attendees were reminded of the significance of active engagement in shaping the nation's growth and development through the electoral process.
The event featured speeches by district officers and eminent personalities, including Advocate Swatantra Dev Kotwal and Advocate Somer Khajuria, who provided valuable insights into voter rights, responsibilities, and the pivotal role of informed political participation, particularly stressing the involvement of youth in shaping the nation's future. Dr. Preity Sharma, District Panchayat Officer, underscored the significance of Voting Rights in fostering a responsible and aware citizenry. The program also showcased artistic performances, including Gitadu and rap, aimed at inspiring the audience, alongside colorful presentations by students encompassing short plays, Lok/Dogri Geet, poster making, poetry recitation, and dance performances.
With over 30 students actively participating in various activities, the program emphasized the value of voting, informed decision-making, and understanding the electoral process, especially with the upcoming general elections in 2024 in mind.
Geetu Banotra, Chief Education Officer Udhampur, honored the occasion with her presence, witnessing the enthusiastic engagement of about 100 attendees. The event concluded with Atul Rasyal delivering closing remarks and Ms. Ambica Thakur, a student of GDC Udhampur, extending a formal vote of thanks. The proceedings were adeptly conducted by students Ms. Ambica Thakur and Mr. Nitish Kalotra, culminating with the rendition of the National Anthem, marking a successful culmination of the event.
