Jammu, Feb 27- Engineering College Teachers’ Association(ECTA) in an emergent meeting discussed various issues emerging out of non-framing of rules of teaching faculty for last more than 14 years and strategy to be evolved for making the government to do the needful in the matter.
Addressing the meeting, Rajeev Bali, president ECTA informed the members that Engineering College teachers have been representing to various authorities for framing of rules for the teachers for last more than a decade but nothing has been done so far. He further said that after much persuasion a case was prepared which has been hanging fire for last more than two years in the Finance Department. “Nothing has been done to ameliorate the sufferings of the teachers of engineering college whose fate is still undecided without any chances of promotion, getting next grade or career advancement”, he said.
Bali said that efforts would be made to seek an audience with Finance Minister and Chief Minister for apprising them about their problems.
Manoj Gupta General Secretary ECTA said that teachers of GCET have become a frustrated lot as nobody has a future while serving in the premier institute. He further informed that those who joined GCET in 1996 as lecturer in the pay scale of 8000-13500 are still serving at the post of lecturer with same grade while their counterparts who joined Jammu University, SKUAST etc. have reached to the post of Professor in the pay scale of 16400-22400. He said that no career advancement and higher qualification scheme exists for the teachers of GCET who are facing an identity crisis also.
Later, a delegation of ECTA met Principal GCET Dr. Bhupinder Singh and apprised him about the problems faced by them. Dr. Singh assured them to take up the matter with the higher authorities.
The ECTA has decided to hold another meeting next week to decide about the future course of action.
