Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 14: Amid reports that the chairman of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangthan Party chairman Choudhary Lal Singh is going to join the party, the Congress high command is likely to release the list of party candidates for three Lok Sabha seats of J&K and Ladakh after March 17.
Highly placed sources said that a meeting of the Congress Election Committee (CEC) will be held on March 17 to finalize candidates of some states including J&K and Ladakh.
“Party is waiting for the implementation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the Lok Sabha elections”, sources said and added that Choudhary Lal Singh is likely to join the Congress only after the implementation of MCC.
“Although discussions with Choudhary Lal Singh are going on, no final date has been fixed for his joining the Congress Party”, sources said and added that instead of involving local leaders in the discussion, the party has deputed some central leaders to hold talks with the Choudhary Lal Singh.
“After implementation of the MCC, central agencies will be under the direct control of the Election Commission of India that is why Congress leadership is anxiously waiting for the same”, sources said.
Sources said that J&K and Ladakh units of Congress have already submitted panels of potential candidates to the party's high command to take a final call.
“For the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seat Raman Bhalla and Tara Chand are front-runners while on Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary seat the party leadership is discussing names of Choudhary Lal Singh and Thakur Balbir Singh”, sources said.
As per reports, Congress leadership is trying to convince former minister Nawang Rigzin Jora for the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat where party will get support of both the National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party.
