Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Mar 15: In a significant step towards fostering a cleaner and healthier environment, the Department of Environmental Sciences and NSS Unit of Government Postgraduate College Rajouri joined forces to organize a massive cleanliness drive on March 15, 2024. The initiative was conducted under the national campaign Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, with the steadfast guidance of College Principal Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad.
Led by Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed, NSS Programme Officer, and Prof. Naveen Sharma, Head of the Department of Environmental Science, along with the support of Prof. Altaf Ahmed and Ms. Flourance Chand, the event kicked off with an insightful extension lecture on the importance of maintaining a healthy environment and the core values of cleanliness. NSS volunteers, alongside students of Environmental Science, enthusiastically participated in cleaning the college campus, diligently collecting waste materials, especially plastic and polythene, from every corner. Prof. Sharma enlightened the students about the challenges posed by solid waste generation and imparted knowledge on its safe disposal methods. Additionally, a campaign advocating 'Say No to Plastic' was launched, stressing the imperative to make the campus plastic-free.
The initiative saw the active involvement of approximately 140 students, reflecting a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and civic responsibility.
